If you’re trying to make it in the internet marketing world, then you have probably heard many times the importance of building your list. Spending time, energy, and money driving traffic to a squeeze page that fails to generate an adequate number of leads can be frustrating. Here are 10 tips to help you build a squeeze page that actually converts.
- Headline – The headline may be the most important part of your page, so spend some time on it. You want a major benefit to be included in the headline. You should consider split testing these to see which is the best at grabbing a person’s attention.
- Offer Something Free – Your prospect is unlikely to hand over his email address unless he thinks he’s getting something valuable in return. You might give away a free report, a free ebook, a free video, or a free audio. It’s a good idea to include a picture of the item that you are giving away so that your prospect knows exactly what he is getting. Make it as valuable as you can so that he won’t be able to resist getting his hands on it.
- Bulleted Benefits – You should list all the benefits of your free product and all the benefits of subscribing to your list. The best way to communicate these benefits is through a bulleted list. Most people won’t spend too much time on your squeeze page, so you want to present everything in as concise a format as possible.
- Highlight and Bold – Along the same lines as the bullets, you should highlight or bold the most important emotion-inducing words. This way those words will jump out at your prospect even if they weren’t reading the whole text.
- No Distraction – Your squeeze page should be simple and clean, with no distractions. You don’t want to give the prospect any reason or excuse to leave your page. The only option should be to either enter his email address or to click the back button on his browser.
- Call to Action – You should clearly tell the prospect what he needs to do. You might assume that it’s obvious that he should enter his email, but you can’t always assume that. Tests have shown that conversion rates are higher even if you go to ridiculous extremes like showing a big red arrow pointing at the opt-in box.
- Don’t Be Greedy – Your opt-in box should ask for your prospect’s name and email address. It may be tempting to ask for their age, income, and the rest of their life history; but this will simply discourage them from opting-in.
- Guarantee Their Privacy – Almost everybody nowadays is weary of giving out their email address to strangers. We have all been burned by spam too many times in the past. A simple guarantee that you will never sell or spam your prospect’s email address can give you a higher conversion rate.
- Use the “Submit” Button Wisely – Does the submit button on your opt-in form simply say “submit”? If so, you’re wasting valuable real estate. This is a great time to remind the prospect of the benefit he is receiving by subscribing to your list. Consider replacing the default text with something like “Yes! Send the Free Report”. This can help retain prospects who may get cold feet at the last second.
- Look Professional – Finally, you want your page to look professional. You are less likely to get an email address if your site looks like a kid threw it together. Although it should be simple and clean, it should look like the site of a real business.
Your squeeze page is one of the most important parts of your business. It is usually the first time your customers will come in contact with your business, so you want to make a good impression. If you implement some of these tips, you should be able to achieve that and to increase your conversions.

Great tips!! I also would want to add the use of videos. Some people use videos to get their message across. And also sometimes, a lot of people would rather watch a video than read a bunch of text. If you choose to do this, make sure the video loads quickly and smoothly in every web browser. It is also good to purchase a separate domain name for your squeeze page. By having a separate domain name, the page can have it’s own SEO attributes and relevant plugins. Then you can link to it via your main blog or website.
Good tip about the separate domain. I hadn’t thought that much about it until now but I can clearly see the advantages of such a strategy.
Know why didn’t I think of that. Holy smokes that a really great idea Andrew.
Great tips Tom and you should say I’m tracking you everywhere. I always believe headline is the biggest factor to get attention and organized content is the next thing to cash those attention. Thanks for this fine set of tips again.

Most points seem quite obvious when listed in a helpful resource like this, but using a different name for the “submit” action is a very interesting idea to help convert potential customers with last-minute nerves.

Nice tips you have shared here. I will keep these in my mind. It will really help me.
These are some great tips here. One thing I have issues with is finding out what is better short or long copy. In my experience the more it costs the longer the copy but I heard some very different opinions from trusted sources.
Love the idea with the reminder in the submit button haven’t yet thought about that one :D

Testing the different versions for your product and market is the best way. Try what you like and then tweak and see how your target market responds. I think everyone would agree that enormously long is probably unnecessary. Somewhere between ‘everything above the fold’ of the screen and stop before their finger falls off from scrolling.
You talk about offering something for free as a way to get people to opt into a list. I don’t think you put enough emphasis on this particular part of the equation. The number of conversions you get is going to be determined by how well you present this free gift. If the visitor feels strongly compelled to get that product, you will get the conversion.
It is all about offering something of exceptional high value to the prospect.
Andrew is on target with his comment about using videos. Videos definitely help conversions if they are well produced.
these are really helpful.. these are the small things that web marketers, seo specialists, etc often forget or neglect. they usually concentrate on other more difficult means that either have low or no conversions at all
Everything depends on point no. 2 i.e. ‘Offer Something Free’.Until and unless you offer them something which they really find valuable, they are not even going to click in the subscription Box on your Squeeze page.I like your idea.
Blog layout is important too. :)
Great article, with even greater tips. Awesome read, will really help many people.
And do not use too much bold and different colors for the text. Remember that only 1 or two things can be important in the page. Not everything!
Excellent point!
blog layout is very important. an attractive blog design and layout attracts more people and thus the traffic increases.
Great tips Tom. i too planned to start giving free ebook to build email list. this tips will help me there.
