2 Different Ways to Create a Squeeze Page in Thesis

You can jump into the code a create custom squeeze page yourself – OR – you can use a Squeeze Page plugin. A plugin will let you create many different types of squeeze pages, landing pages and sales pages by simply using drop-down menus. It’s a bit like selecting a page template or choosing the category a post belongs to. Coding is another story.

Creating a Custom Page Versus Using a Squeeze Page Plugin

If you are confident with using css and php, then you probably already know how to do this. You  must be reading to see how other people suggest to do it.

Against - Suggest the use of a squeeze page plugin

• If you are reasonably new to code, the custom_functions.php file, your custom.css file and the use of hooks - then coding your own squeeze page may be a trial and error process, with more errors than effective outcomes.
• Use a squeeze page plugin to give you 5 minute squeeze pages, different kinds of custom pages and that professional look.

For - Do the coding

• You won’t know unless you give it a go. Once you learn how to play with the code, you will be able to customize your Thesis site at your will.
• You know all of those really cool Thesis site designs you see around? Sometimes what makes all the difference from them and the default white Thesis theme is a little bit of custom code.
• I recommend trying to learn about custom functions in Thesis BUT if you want a quick, effective and professional looking squeeze page that converts and helps you build that email list 5 minutes from now – go straight for the plugin.

Coding the squeeze page yourself

The goal is to make your squeeze page look separate to your main blog and to have as few distractions as possible.

So, if you are brave or talented, you can create a custom squeeze page template and then add code to remove your standard header, sidebars, navigation and footer elements.

If you do not own a Thesis Theme developer’s licence but are using Thesis to create your squeeze page – you will need to make sure your Thesis attribution remains in the footer. Whereas, if you use a Squeeze Page plugin and only have a personal licence, you will usually be creating a separate page and you can remove the link.

• This is quite difficult for people who do not have ‘coding talent’.

Cons: This process shows you how to create only one type of squeeze page.

• If you want variety for several different page formats or something different to the video, you will have to keep looking for other tutorials or consider the other options below.

Choosing and Using a Squeeze Page Plugin

I have been using Thesis Theme since June 2008 and finally got around to deciding to create a squeeze page in late 2009.

Sadly for me, I did not feel confident to create my own custom page templates and design a squeeze page, landing page or sales page that looked good and worked like they should. (I tried coding my own page but I was unsuccessful.)

• You will notice that all of the positive reviews for Squeeze Theme plugin and Squeeze Theme are by people who DO NOT use the theme/plugin.
• Compare this to the Thesis Theme community and the 20,000+ users who proudly show off their sites whenever they can.
• I DO NOT recommend this product.

Weigh up the evidence and make a sensible decision – and save yourself $50 while you are at it.
