I just upgraded four of our blogs to WordPress version 2.7 and Thesis version 1.3.2. As usual there are tweaks to be made to maintain customizations and make gradual improvements each time. I can’t help it, I’m a Virgo!
The the following links are the ones I needed to locate to bring the unique style back to our blogs and customize using the recently added Hooks function of Thesis Theme.
Despite thesis few tweaks, Thesis Theme is getting better each release. Customizing is getting easier and requiring even less coding than before.
1. Get Your Big Ass Save Button & Style Back
In the Thesis Options page of the Administration area, you may find it difficult to select categories and find it generally bland and difficult to navigate through. Bring back the style with this simple code fix.

Go to Bringin’ Some Style to WordPress 2.7 at DIY Themes to grab a few lines of code for a simple copy and paste into your custom functions file.
2. Move The Navigation Bar Below The Header
PLUS Adding Colour To Your Tabs
Once again a couple of lines of code to paste into your custom functions file. You can find it at this thread along with code for changing the colour of your tabs and a handy link to a site with colour #codes – courtesy of twolane.
3. Customize Your 404 Error Page
“Gnarly dude” doesn’t suit everyone. Here’s the thread with the few lines of code to post into your custom functions file to make it the way you’d like.
4. Removing Footer Text for Developer’s Edition
This Thesis Forum thread gives you some insight.
I have also adapted code provided in the fabulous post Thesis Footer 101 on Kristarella.com. Kristarella provides clear explanations with diagrams and pictures that is especially helpful for the non-coders amongst us. (My hand is up!) Have a look at the kind of footers you can have if you use some of Kristarella’s tips…
5. Return To The Source
Read the Thesis Theme User Guide for pointers and help when you get stuck.
The Last Word On Plugins
Check that all of your plugins work after you upgrade either WordPress or Thesis Theme.
I clicked on the WP-Email link at the bottom of one of my posts and voila! Did not work anymore. And then my journey began….
I had to deactivate and eventually move both the WP-Email plugin and the Sitemap-Generator plugin (by Dagon) out of my plugins folder as they refused to play nice. I also had to comment out or remove the custom function code relating to the plugins to stop getting “call to undefined function” errors. They also produced nasty “Cannot modify header information” errors.
Lesson:
Read the error messages carefully and check the Answers-Troubleshooting pages of Codex at WordPress.org.
