Igloo News is a great free theme for WordPress. We used it on one of our other sites for a while. A quick review of this free theme for wordpress with a list of its main features and our overall thoughts.
Design
The Igloo News theme is a 2-column theme with content to the left and a multifunctional sidebar to the right. The screenshot below shows the light version (default) and the dark version that we had on our site Bully.ws (discontinued in favour of a different url).
Main Features
- Detailed navigation with secondary nav menu for pages
- Featured articles are highlighted
- Image thumbnails created (if you use the ‘image’ custom field with the url)
- Post excerpts in blog are separated nicely
- Tabbed sidebar widget containing comments, popular and featured posts
- A latest videos and flickr images feature in sidebar
- Selection of light or dark theme
- Ad boxes galore
- Huge selection of options for the sidebar
Overall
- A great free theme if you don’t mind the colours and boxy layout.
- Great way to quickly publish your favourite videos from YouTube.
- It lacks the customisation you have withThesis Theme but you can at least customize your header by going into the files. If you wanted to be adventurous you could play with the background and font colors.
- Too many navigation items throw the format out a bit and make it look unprofessional.
- The dashboard area is fairly intuitive. Great beginner’s theme or for using on your personal blog.

A very nice theme, gives an good all round look and feel for the user. I somehow like the light theme, not to dark for me.
