You do not need to understand programming to use this theme and you can make custom changes to make the site totally unique.
There is a learning curve of all themes such as learning which files you need to open to paste your code into. I learnt how to code (novice grade) with Thesis.
- For example, if you want to give your site an image background – say a mountain panorama – you will have to go into the custom.css file and paste the url of your image with a little bit of code you copy and paste from the Forum and many Thesis Theme sites like this one. Very easy.
- If you want to have a subscribe button or link appear at the end of every post or a tweet button at the top of every post – you just need to paste a simple bit of code into the custom-functions.php file. These are the only two files you need to ever touch.
Many other WordPress themes, that I have had experience with and heard about, need you to change several files and if you miss one, the change won’t work properly. Worse still – when the theme is upgraded (a new version comes out), you have to make all of those changes again. If you didn’t keep a lof of changes, you are doomed!
