Quick Simple and Effective Prelaunch Strategies for New Blogs

30 Dec 09

If you intend to start a new blog, you need to consider pre launch strategies. You can harness the power of your current site visitors or try various other strategies. This article is regularly updated with tips and tricks from around the web.

  • You are invited to add your own tips and tricks.

The inspiration for this post is the article The $10 winner and more good news @ Direct Sales Web Marketing.

  • The blog owner was writing about two new blogs he is creating and his search for good domain names.
  • The idea struck me that as I was a blogger and fitted squarely into his target market for his blog about blogging. I was also in his future target market for readers interested in the paranormal.
  • So I added a comment making a suggestion on how he could leverage his existing readership.

I thought I would also share it here, kicking off a post about pre-launch blogging strategies for those future sites you may be working on or thinking about creating.

Quick, Simple and Effective Pre Launch Strategies

play your cards rightOften when you launch a new site you have to wait several months and put in lots of efforts hoping the visitors will come after you build it.

Start thinking about getting visitors before your site is launched and try some of the following strategies.

If you play your cards right, you might get a year’s worth of visitors and readers in 3 months or less.

Leverage your existing readership

  • Write an article that relates to your niche topic and mention your future site. If you future site has nothing to do with your niche, it may still interest your existing readers. If it is related to your existing site it probably will interest all of your existing readers and visitors.
  • For example, if your site is about blogging and you intend to create a new site about the paranormal, offer your existing readers who are interested in the paranormal, a chance to be notified when it is ready and to be sent a link to the new site at that time.
  • Include the url and an approximate date when it will be ready. People may visit the url and bookmark it or make a note in their web journals, e.g. TO DO list.
  • Invite them to subscribe to your RSS or email updates and write a post about the new site when it is ready.
  • You can use AWeber to offer an opt-in form on your site either in the sidebar or in a post, even in the header or footer and wherever you think it will pay dividends. This way you are collecting emails and building your email list of subscribers for your new site even before it launches.

You can also use a comment form plugin and create a unique form for gathering a targeted email list. Insert this form within the post about your new site.

  • This option is free and offers you a list of emails to send a one-off email to invite them to visit the new site when it is ready.
  • Be careful not to spam them as they haven’t opted-in to receive regular or numerous emails, just to be notified when the new site is ready.

There are also opt-in plugins for adding email capture functionality in your sidebar – but this is best for related sites rather than off-topic sites.

Next Strategy

  • More pre launch strategies are coming, but in the mean time feel free to add your tips in the comments and I will flesh them out within the post.
  • If you have written a post about pre launch strategies, be sure to add a link and I may even review it in the body of this post.

Great tips to launch a blog. Talking about your niche in your blog can attract readers, and increases the chances of your product selling better. Talking about your product helps analyze the market and fine tune it as per customers need. A very useful post. Thanks for sharing this post with us.
