Thesis Theme HQ Custom Twitter Background

In the article Customize Your Twitter Background To Match Your Thesis Theme I demonstrated how easy it is to change your Twitter background and why you should.

• This post explains how simple it is to use a background image of your choice on your Twitter page.

Update your personal details and options

1. Log in to your Twitter account.

If this is the first time you have been here – put stuff in each of the boxes.

Warning: If you change your username - you will change your Twitter url and anybody who has followed you (using your original Twitter url/username) won’t be able to find you. You will have to Tweet them with an update and hope they catch it in their stream of Tweets – possibly not!

• The “Account” tab gives you a chance to add your url and a few words about yourself/organisation.
• The “Picture” tab allows you to upload a thumbnail of yourself or something else. Use a sqaure image if you can to avoid it being cropped and looking like cr@p.
• The “Design” tab is where you choose how your Twitter page looks.

2. Select a background image you want to use or make one!

You can go to Twitter Backgrounds and get a free one with a click of the mouse, choose one from the selections on your account panel or upload your own.

If you can’t find a background or  make one that you like – then Twitter Backgrounds has a design service for a fully customized service for less than $100.

Keep in mind that different screens will resize your image.

• Laptops and PCs all have different screen sizes and shapes.
• The way Twitter is set up, your background image will be automatically resized to fit the browser of your reader’s computer.
• Portions of your background may shoot out of sight to the right, hbe hidden under your Twitter pane or be cut off all together.

The image is fixed to the top left so what ever image you use (approximately 1500 x 900 pixels) – you will have to experiment to see what parts of your image sit where. If you can, have a look at your Twitter site on on different screens.

The easiest way is to use an image that doesn’t need to be aligned.

• The background I designed for Thesis Theme HQ’s Twitter page did need to be aligned and I spent several hours tweaking in Photoshop and loading, reloading and reloading the updated, resized, rejigged background image until I was happy.

I’m a self-taught hacker so I am happy with my attempt at a background. Here’s is what it looks like on my husband’s 17″ widescreen laptop.
