Once again I have designed a beautiful and effective website using Thesis Theme for WordPress. Six blogs later, and with another couple on the midnight architect’s dream board, I can’t believe how many different combinations you can get with the one theme.
I started blog as a learning program for myself. While I am learning about blogging with Thesis I thought I would share my journey.
In the Beginning
I started Opportunities HQ in late 2008, but lacked the time to nurture it and instead used it to experiment with different designs using Thesis Theme.
Being new to web design – that is I am not a web designer or programmer – I virtually played until I liked something…but grew tired of it or was in need for extra playing.
I must warn you that the Personal Licence only gives you the creative freedom to have ONE site. This is not enough once you realise how simple and enjoyable it is to KEEP CREATING more sites.
Once you realise that your site can really only handle one part of a niche market before your article topics blur into anything about everything, you need another site. I purchased my Developer’s Licence (I was most impressed to add this feather to my cap, “Website developer!”) within 2 months of starting my first site.
Back to Opportunities HQ… Here are some design iterations from the very first to the most recent. Yes, there are that many!
Einstein Cleverness
I started with a scroll and green. I thought it would be cool but grew tired of it quickly.

Space, the Final Frontier
I wanted to get a feeling of space – literally with this one. I liked the way the multimedia (rotator) box gave a feeling of a hole punched through to the great void. I’m telling you, designing sites and playing with your imagination is so therapeutic.

City Scape Translucence
I got into playing with Photoshop and learning how to make translucent backgrounds and opaque settings so I thought I would experiment again. Poor Opportunities HQ! I liked the city scape design but some said it was too busy and then I agreed.

Ugly Ducking?
I found this conservative feel to work when I was working with it and when it was in my head, but when I sat back away from it and my 17 year-old daughter said, “That’s really nice.” Not cool, random, mad or amazing Mum! I knew it had to be reconsidered. The burgundy design did not go live – I just wanted to try a more traditional look.

Drum Roll Please…Voila Blue & White Classy Gen-Young Feel
So, with my latest attempt I think I am pretty happy to run with it for quite some time. Please go and have a look at the new and improved Opportunities HQ - keeping in mind she is young and full of potential but not so full of posts.
I’d love you to post your comments back here on this post.
Designing A Site With Thesis
I will also be putting together an article on how I designed and coded the most recent look. I will post it over at Opportunities HQ but will put a link here as well.

Just an update – I’ve since rolled the content from this site into another – Blogging Down Under so the links to this site won’t show the above.
Still loving Thesis!
