Twitpic and Twitterfeed – Two Terrific Twitter Tools

Twitpic is for photosharing and Twitterfeed is for feeding your site content to Twitter. Together, these tools let you share your images in a few clicks and feed your post content automatically.

Twitpic for Images

Twitpic lets you share photos on Twitter in real-time. You can post photos to TwitPic from your phone, from the site twitpic.com, or through email.

  • Head on over to the twitpic site and sign in with your Twitter logon.
  • Upload your photo, add up to 114 characters of text and hit upload. (Twitpic needs characters for the shortlink it adds to your twitter text.)
  • Within minutes (or less) you have a link on your twitter account to the image.

You can use the link to the photo in posts as well. Below are some twitpic examples. Feel free to head on over to twitpic and add comments.

Photo in need of a caption

The captions suggested by viewers of this image are hilarious. My favourite is in this image – a bit small to read – it says:

“When people asked Bob what he did for a living, he just said, “A ball boy for a sporting event.” It was easier that way.

Real Bill Bailey

My husband and I saw the British comedian Bill Bailey perform in Canberra, Australia recently and got our pic taken with him. You can tag the people in an image - shown when you hover over me for example. (My red eyes are from laughing so hard and the heavy jackets prove it was winter-time.)

Ugliest bird in the world

This is a pic  I put up on my twitter site about 9 months ago.

Modelling in the 80s – hot or not?

A pic I put on twitpic today to get the upload screen.

The result on my twitter account:

TwitterFeed

TwitterFeed, feeds your posts from your site (or sites) to your twitter account automatically based on your settings.

My current settings for TwitterFeed (for guidance, not gospel):

  • check for new posts every 1 hour
  • add a maximum of 1 post each time
  • include title and description
  • shorten the post link using bit.ly
  • post new items based on publish date

It is great for when you haven’t been tweeting but still want your followers to know you are still active online.

Here is an example of a period when I tweeted little and TwitterFeed covered for me.

Other Twitter Tools

There are probably hundreds of Twitter applications that deserve a worthy mention.

I also use tweetmeme to help readers tweet and retweet posts.

What are your favourite twitter applications and why?

  • Share your thoughts and recommendations in the comments below.

Are there any twitter applications you do not recommend? Why not?

  • For example,  I gave up using Magpie.  I found it too spammy for my purposes. But, others may love it!

Twitpic is a brilliant feature, although worry that a dependency on Twitterfeed may look a little spammy. In other news, I saw Bill Bailey live last year, and he was fantastic! Hope you enjoyed him too!

Twitpic is awesome! Unlike the traditional text base updates, it allows you to make your post more interesting by allowing you to post images.. Amazing post! Thanks!

I use twitterfeed, but not for twitter. It can actually send links to your posts to many sites based on status.net, like identi.ca. It is great for some free automatic links. There is actually a plug-in for wordpress that can do that too. It is called WP Status.net.

Of all the Twitter tools, I mostly use Hootsuit because allows me to send tweets when I’m not online, which is a big advantage, given that I have followers from other parts of the globe. I’ll definitely try twetpic, to see what results I get.

These two are indeed a great tools. Unlike regular tweets which gets less attention, pictures in your tweets make it more interesting and can act as a click bait. Thanks for this great information.

I have been using TwitterFeed for over an year now and I must say, it is a great tool to post your posts to twitter. But, if you are using Feedburner to manage your site feed, you can also do it from you feedburner Dashboard. That is also very helpful and save you to have a separate sign-up on one more site. We anyways have some 100 site on which we keep on registering and then end up using the Forgot password ;)

I have been playing with few Twitter spin-offs this sunday, TwitterFeed and TwitPic. TwitterFeed automatically post items on an RSS feed to your Twitter account, while TwitPic allows you to post your pictures or images to your Twitter account via the mobile device, email or web interface.

What about status.net ?

Somone Bull February 22, 2011

In just over 2.5 years it hasn’t really gotten off the ground – anywhere near comparing with the big Twitter show. Perhaps one day. So much competition in this area and spreading services thin is sometimes too thin.
