Use Unsolicited Reviews To Get Free Traffic To Your Site

Earlier this month I came across the free Wowzio Widget and wrote a review about it here on Thesis Theme HQ.

Well, within 4 weeks of my review, Wowzio placed a lovely snippet of my review in poll-position on their Testimonials page. They also nicely included 2 juicy links back to this site.

Thank you Wowzio.

Riding Shotgun & Sharing The Google-Juice

Considering that the Wowzio Widget is a top performer, I think it is safe to assume that the Wowzio site will have a pretty good Google search engine index rating soon, if not already.

So a few links from one of their static pages may turn out to be quite valuable.

I’m sure the site examples and corresponding links on Chris’ Pearsonified.com site do wonders for the sites that are showcased. This is one of the main reasons for this site. Some people deserve to be showcased but are late adopters or do not actively promote themselves.

Self-Promotion Can Sometimes Be Unintentional

Visitors to your blog, or bloggers and webmasters scouring their site statistics, may hoist you into the spotlight without you asking. Such is the nature of the internet.

I know from personal experience that when I come across an unimposing blog that deserves recognition, it can be quite a surprise when you advise the administrator you have just reviewed them and you think their site should be commended.

Calling For Self-Promoting Blog Owners

While I am on the subject, if you are using the Thesis Theme for your blog/site and you feel it should be showcased, send me a message using the contact form (the link is in the right-hand sidebar).

I am about to pump out more blog reviews shortly and would love to include yours if it fits the description of a Bright, Bold or Beautiful Blog. Bright means in colour or smarts, so don’t think just butterflies and rainbows.

Having A Say Over What Content Is Displayed

Below is a screenshot of the Wowzio Testimonials page with reference to the Thesis Theme HQ review article in the top right hand corner just under “Articles and Reviews”.

When I wrote about the Wowzio Widget I was just excited about the functionality that you get for free. I put the post together to encourage users to give it a go and Wowzio obviously liked my genuine tone.

The words that Wowzio used on their Testimonial page were…

  • The exact post title
  • The opening sentences before the “more” tag, and
  • The “excerpt”

Suggesting Words For Publicity Purposes

The main lessons I learnt from this event were…

  • Take care writing your post titles
  • Convey the essence of your post in your opening sentences or paragraph, and
  • Treat the excerpt as your publicly endorsed media or press release snippet

Share Your Unexpected Marketing Moments

  • Tell us about a time when you were promoted unexpectedly.

I guess its time for me to look at the wowzio site. Who does not like a free backlink or two?

I would rather say that content is Queen and SEO is King. I say this because all of the greatest content in the world will not bring visitors if your site is not optimized for search engines. Moreover, content and SEO really aren’t, in themselves, enough any more given the intensity of the competition out there: There are a LOT of super-talented writers that are equally well versed in SEO on the Internet. So, ultimately, advertising is what often breaks ties and is, therefore, what I would consider the 3rd essential element to exposure. I understand that’s not what many people want to hear as it costs money; but, it’s better, I think, to accept it and develop an appropriate strategy that takes that reality into account.

Excellent advice. You really have to look at unique competitive advantage for your particular niche. if your business model is about content, SEO and advertising and your area of expertise – that should work a treat.
