Customize When Your Sidebars Show What & Widgetize Your Thesis Multimedia Box

Introducing Widget Logic – a subtle plugin to help you customize the use and look of your sidebars and multimedia box for you Thesis Theme site.

3 Simple Steps

  1. Download the Widget Logic plugin
  2. Choose what and when you would like ‘things’ to appear on your page in your sidebar
  3. Use custom code in your multimedia box

1. Installing Widget Logic

Install the Widget Logic plugin using the Plugin Browser/Installer link at the bottom of your plugin dashboard Widget Logic for Thesis Themepage. Type in “widget logic” in the search box to find it. Activate it and it will work without any adjustment.

2. Use the Widget Logic plugin to customize what appears in your sidebars

Simply add whatever widget you want into your sidebar and when you click to edit you will be given additional options.

In the screenshot to the right, I added the “Recent Posts” between two Text widgets (that display custom code).

As I only want this widget to appear on single pages – to help fill the white space usually in the right sidebar when visitors are reading a post – I inserted “is_single()” in the Widget logic box.

You can read more about Widget Logic and see what other code you can use e.g. is_page(‘about’) here.

3. Using Widgets in Your Multimedia Box

If you want widgets in your multimedia box you will have to add some code to your custom-functions file

OR

if you are smart (and cheat and do it the easy way) you will install the Thesis Open Hook plugin and just paste 2 lines of code in the MMbox area.

What is Thesis OpenHook?

Thesis OpenHook is a plugin that will allow you to fully customize your Thesis installation without touching your custom/custom_functions.php file unless you just really want to!

OpenHook adds a new panel to your administration panel’s Design area — in addition to Thesis Options & Design Options, OpenHook creates a new Thesis OpenHook panel.

Here is a screenshot below showing a portion of the very long options panel (something for virtually every part of your Thesis Theme).
