You’re either in my korner or with the trolls: Winning with Charlie Sheen

Hiding behind words, radio, drugs, sunglasses, etc

If any of you haven’t yet seen what the Internet is competing with – then wake up!  Charlie Sheen is living his life with living in mind. His number one priority (in my humble opinion) is speaking his mind. He has found his voice and he is happy to say exactly what he fuc*ing believes.

When the Darren Rowse’s (Problogger) and Chris Brogan’s (Copyblogger) of the world speak their mind … do you really listen? Or do you have an ulterior motive?! Making money may be important but what about being true to what you feel?! Find your true voice.

If you want to get into the mind of a man who is living his life – truly living how he wants – not giving a sh*t about what others may think – then watch the video below. Stop worrying about how others ‘perceive’ your words and actions and just let loose. You will discover your ‘true’ followers.

Thanks to Island Crisis and the article [who gives a damn - my words] about the Mauritius lottery…I end up deciding to watch a Charlie Sheen video – from start to finish – and enjoy the fact that he is doing what he wants – being a winner by his own standards…the standards that matter the most…or at least should matter the most.

You’re either with Sheen’s Korner or you’re with the trolls…

**Update** On 15 March 2011, Charlie’s Ustream channel was taken off-air and videos were disabled.**

Okay then – one of his videos got me after about the 9 minute mark…understanding what this man is feeling and experiencing in a two-dimensional world. He is in tune with himself and his potential -which will probably never really match up with contemporary opinion on how you should act in the absence of stimulants/drugs/alcohol.

Imagine if you were blogging exactly how you feel – saying it how it is – how would your audience react? If they react favourably – great. If not – is this the audience you really want? If not, how do you ‘speak your voice’ and get your ‘true followers’?

Nothing more – just a thought provoking comment to get you reacting to an educated person’s take on another human being ‘living real’ and ‘being true to themselves in the moment.’

P.S. I don’t endorse drugs – just the freedom of speech that seems to come with them.

An interesting spin on the Charlie Sheen phenomenon. I think without the rampant sensationalism of Charlie’s drug use and the spotlight shone on anyone of celebrity ilk, the public might find the rambling videos and tweets from a drug addled 40 something a lot less interesting.

Of course, the idea of using your blog to truly speak your mind and cover the topics you personally find interesting, without the influence of monetary gain, is an exhilerating concept, but I feel very much like your argument is based on the “If you build it, they will come” idea. Which isn’t likely to get a very large following if you’re passions don’t align well with that of the mainstream public.

I think Charlie’s current popularity has more in common with the crowd that gathers around a burning building than it does with an appreciation of one man’s decision to live completely uninhibited.

I agree with your burning building analogy…the main reason I ‘tuned in’…but then the social phenomenon is quickly turning into a skillful strategy with him getting back at the management of the show and paving his way for greater paid fame. Speaking your mind and then seeing what comes of it is often how bloggers start out. It can quickly become addictive…much like booze and other vices. in the end random bloggers who end up make it big may have something more in common with Charlie than they first thought.

The difference between genius and insanity is often whether you’re successful or not. By that measure Charlie Sheen is a Genius.

Hi Somone,

I don’t know. I sort of find the fascination with Charlie Sheen right now a bit ghoulish. The man is clearly in the midst of a breakdown or something, and people just seem concerned with watching it happen. I’d prefer if people were more sympathetic – though I know interfering isn’t great either. Hmm.

Thanks!

Pete

It will be interesting to see how his sold out theatre show goes. He will come back, by hook or by crook.

I am pretty sick of all the Charlie Sheen crap, at first it was funny, the whole winning thing and being rebellious on interviews, but he has taken it too far, and is running out of funny stuff to say, the whole winning thing is last month old, he was funny at first, but know he has turned into a total doosh bag.

It is a great social study though – his creation of multiple memes. I went for a 40km bike ride with my husband on the weekend and joked about how I was “hash tag ‘grimmacing’ [instead of winning]” (passing through the pain barrier). That funny wouldn’t have been possible without #winning, etc.

I hear ya, and if you read a lot of what Charlie Sheen says, a lot of it does make sense. He’s just a man who’s speaking his mind. What do people expect, if that’s how he feels, should we tell him not to speak his mind or not to feel that way. Should we tell him to line up and be more like the rest of us, he seems to be doing well for himself, sure he’s had a few speed bumps, but then again we all have and he does seem to be on top, lots of money living with two beautiful women, etc.

Power to Mr Sheen, hes speaking his mind and doing his thing.
You may not agree or approve, but as long as hes “Winning” who cares!
Plus you have to agree, it is rather entertaining.

As a fellow Aussie, I appreciate watching Charlie from afar. His ability to polarize the sexes is phenomenal. Only very secure women are likely to appreciated his misogynistic humor. I enjoyed his diversion on the news from environmental disasters, and middle east wars. I also marvel that it appears that he may in fact be “winning”, with fox maybe taking over the show.

I however don’t think he is a genius or a brilliant off the cuff entertainer, witnessed from the spectacular failure of his internet show, but he does have charisma and a world wide following (for better or worse). I just wonder if he is speaking his mind or making stuff up, and partying on, and now obviously going through a little withdrawal, since he has to be ‘sober’ for his regular appearances with the media.

After all this time, I still don’t know if an ‘insane mans ramblings’ make good TV, or if its just the car crash mentality we enjoy. Meanwhile there are many guys out their just cheering him on, as the party lurches forward and he keeps standing up. Testament to very good doctors or special pharmaceuticals I imagine.

It is however a shame that the ‘freedom of speech’ concept has been dragged into this, because his rants and taunts are not noble, they are all aimed at making his life financially better, so he can go on winning. I will continue to watch the slow motion car crash until it reaches it natural conclusion though. Aren’t we all voyeurs at heart?

I hear you. I am a woman who appreciates a man’s natural regression to his primal state (from time to time). Yes, let’s see what his come back is like if they take him back.

Looks like its now all about his social media intern, and how many twitter followers he can muster. Wont he eventually have to do things to sustain people wanting to read about him? I mean I know that paris didn’t have to do anything but turn up at parties for a year, but where is she now?

Got to say that the Entertainment weekly news of Charile and Snoop dog getting together does add a dimension of excitement. Do you think Snoop will be able to help reign our fallen star in or is that over expecting?

ALSO wish I could afford to go to the Violent Torpedo of Truth concerts, but surely his lawyers or new network wont want him slagging off the media, so seriously, what uncensored comments will he be able to make? The ex show and his life were parallel paths, now both are stopped. What can even the best writers come up with?

Nah, looks like I am still hooked about this ‘life about nothing’.

An interesting perspective, Somone. I’d never thought of it that way before. I think that the best blogs are ones where you feel as if the writer is being honest and letting their personalities escape from their mind, on the character keys, and out through the reader’s screen into the back of the reader’s eyes. Yet, that is still only a maximum of 80% of the writer’s personality.

Charlie Sheen, from what I’ve seen, allows 99% of himself to be exposed to the public. There are no holds barred. Nothing is left to the imagination and, sadly, his body and mind won’t be able to keep it up for much longer. For his children’s sake, he should take a one year, self-imposed, exile from all media.

I’d have to agree. After the feedback from the latest tour (opening show) he could win many more fans by being humble and admitting he needed a comedy writer and peer review (and perhaps thinking a bit before leaping). I’m still eager to see him WIN. He’s expressing how many of us have felt at least once in our lives (but possibly not for as long).

If another station picks up the program, or he gets an $8M payout, and he is able to continue a film career (if he wants) wouldn’t that be classed as “winning”? I think sometimes the right place at the right time has as much to do with people being plucked out of ordinariness into stardom has as much to do with winning in life as raw talent.

I think I like the guy, don’t really approve or commend all of his actions, but like-ability goes a long way in life doesn’t it? Which ever way this resolves, like many people are saying, he is pretty much ‘doing it his way’ with only offending a few people directly.

Regardless of his actions to get him to this point in time, we would all probably like to have the same inherent control over our destiny as Charlie seems to have managed. Even if he is now not marketable, it sounds like he has some assets behind him that could see him into retirement, IF he really has given up substance abuse as he claims.

Roll on charlie, roll on …

For me, the Charlie Sheen story is just an exercise in great PR. I’m not saying it was staged as such as I suspect the man is suffering from Cognitive Dissonance but his PR agency/representation decided to ride the storm for all it was worth rather than hide from it.

Who doesn’t want to see his next movie now? No-one!
